beautiful, romantic and perfectly homey

March 2013
Bill,
Thanks for letting us share your treasure at Volcano. It was amazing!
You're place was the highlight of our week in Hawaii. It was so beautiful, romantic and perfectly homey. As I report about my vacation to my friends at home, the thing I tell them about the most is the cabin in the woods, with an A-frame on all sides and windows all around. We so appreciated the fireplace all set up for us the first night we got there and all the extras from bubble bath to spices to extra blankets and firewood. The day we got there was my birthday and it was truly the best birthday ever. We stayed up late by the fire and it was magical.
My boyfriend was tickled by your sense of humor on the signs from the ghost disk player to tricking our friends by dimming the kitchen light with our knee. We like a good laugh. :)
Thank you so much for sharing your amazing place with us. I'm going to pass your info along to some friends, if that's ok. We are so grateful and hope there will be another opportunity to visit again next year. My only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer (oh, and an 11am checkout would be nice).
I'll put a great review on www.homeway.com.
Thank you a thousand times!

Even better than we had expected

March 2013

Aloha Bill!

My family and I had such a WONDERFUL stay at your beautiful Kipuka Cottage,  it was even better than we had expected. We loved everything from the HUGE windows to the quirky decor, we loved falling to sleep listening to the pounding rain and waking up to the beautiful, lush surroundings of the natural landscape. It was a great home base, not too far from everything else, but you still feel like a million miles away from civilization. We had a great time on Hawai'i Island, we fell in love with it. The people are so warm and welcoming, it was a great change of pace from the frigid northeast (and I'm not talking about the weather)! If I could go back today, I would! I can't say enough good things about our vacation, friends and family are still hearing about it from us.

There wasn't anything we wished was there but wasn't

Kipuka Cottage was our first stop on our vacation.  I was apprehensive about being in the rain forest on the start of our journey.  But it was a unique and amazing experience which was enhanced by the design and location of your house.  Instead of feeling pent in by the rain, the covered patio, tree house loft & large windows made you feel a part of it (but warm and dry).  We spent 3 days in Volcano hiking - sometimes to the tune of 10 & 12 miles a day.  Coming "home" to the house to a martini on the deck and a cooked meal, reading, and writing, planning out the remainder of our stay with your great books - it was all so easy with your well prepared/stocked kitchen & house.

My husband is an architecture buff.  He went nuts over the design, took tons of pictures, and some inspiration.  He keeps talking about how much he liked the large sliding glass door.  I loved all the details - the bust looking in the bedroom window, a head under a cake cover and the glass head full of glass (I purchased my own glass head when we returned).  Also the interior details, ceramic hands, great use of space (with the small stove, etc.).  We both agreed that there wasn't anything we wished was there but wasn't. ...

Hi Bill,

Steven and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kipuka, and we've already suggested others stay at the cottage if they visit the Big Island! Some things we particularly enjoyed:

 - the craftsmanship and detail put into the cottage: wood construction windows, the beautiful front glass sliding door, beautiful wood beams and ceiling, etc.

- free long distance phone use (found it very handy)

- wood burning fireplace (we used it most mornings)

- the wonderful bathroom/soaker tub

- the beautiful, peaceful surroundings

We found everything we needed (and more) at Kipuka Cottage and it really exceeded our expectations. There is absolutely nothing we thought could be improved, as our stay was exceptional. Steven wrote an entry in the guest book so hopefully you and Marie-France will get a chance to read it.

Thanks again for providing such a wonderful escape for us!

The pictures online do not do this beautiful place justice. We loved every moment of the stay there. Hawaii was a beautiful place and nothing we could of ever have imagined. My fiance and I got the relaxation that was much needed there. We met alot of locals and they were a big help on our travels on the Big Island. We explored the entire island in 7 days and it was amazing. We will be returning hopefully around June of next year. Our visit will hopefully bring a new chapter of our lives. We loved it so much there that my fiance and I have decided we are moving to the Big Island as soon as he retires from the army. Thanks again for opening your beautiful home to us and we will never forget our wonderful vacation. The cottage was made from a dream, and we lived it for 7 days.  ~ Crystal and Donald

What amazed me is how transparent the space is upstairs with all the glass.  You really feel like you are in the trees.  Thanks again for sharing your cottage with travellers.  Hotel rooms just don't compare! ~ Paul, Edmonton Canada
